Privacy Policy

Field Notes (the “App” and related website) is operated by Data Rains, LLC (“we,” “us,” or “our”). This policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using Field Notes, you agree to this policy.

Information we collect

  • Account information. When you sign in with Google, our authentication provider (Supabase) receives your email address and basic profile information to create and secure your account.
  • Learning activity. We store the progress you create in the App — concepts viewed, practice attempts, mastery evidence, and interactive lab configurations — linked to your account so we can save and personalize your path.
  • Tutor interactions. Questions you submit to the AI tutor are transmitted to our AI providers (Anthropic and Google) to generate a response. We store only a one-way hash of each question plus non-identifying metadata (the model used, token counts, and latency) for reliability and abuse prevention — not the raw text of your questions.
  • Subscription information. Purchases are processed by Apple and our subscription manager (RevenueCat). We receive your subscription status and entitlement; we do not receive or store your payment card details.
  • Technical data. Standard server and security logs generated when you use the service.

How we use information

  • Provide, save, and personalize your learning experience.
  • Operate the AI tutor and interactive labs.
  • Manage subscriptions and entitlements.
  • Maintain security, prevent abuse, and enforce rate limits.
  • Comply with legal obligations.

Service providers

We share information only with the processors that help us run the service: Supabase (authentication and database), Anthropic and Google (AI processing of tutor questions), Google (sign-in), RevenueCat and Apple (subscriptions and payments), and Vercel (hosting). Each processes data only to provide their service to us.

How we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only with the service providers listed above to operate Field Notes, or when required by law.

Your choices and rights

You can export your learning data and permanently delete your account and associated learner data from within the App and website. If you need help exercising these choices, contact us at the address below.

Data retention

We retain your account and learning data until you delete your account, after which we remove your learner data from active systems within a reasonable period, except where retention is required by law.

Security

Data is encrypted in transit, access to your records is restricted to your authenticated account through row-level security, and payment details are handled by Apple and never reach our servers.

Children’s privacy

Field Notes is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe a child has provided us information, please contact us and we will delete it.

International users

We operate in the United States, and your information is processed there. By using Field Notes, you consent to this processing.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy from time to time. Material changes will be reflected by updating the effective date above.
